Visitors consistently praise the knowledgeable, friendly staff and the beautifully presented, lived-in feel of the rooms on the self-guided tour, along with the gardens, tearoom and gift shop.
A couple of practical notes recur: the tower stairs are steep and unsuitable for those with mobility problems, and paid parking on top of the entrance fee irritates at least one visitor.

Disabled parking is available near the front of the castle; accessible toilets are in the courtyard near the shop and cafe. Wheelchair access and buggy access are both listed among the site facilities. Coach parking is 300m from the property.

History
Michael Fraser, 6th Laird of Fraser · 1575
Construction began in 1575 on an earlier medieval tower, with the elaborate Z-plan castle not completed until 1636, representing over six decades of building. Substantially remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries, the castle retains much of its original fabric and remains a family home showcasing six centuries of Scottish domestic architecture.
