The range runs from Edinburgh Castle's crowds down to remote coastal ruins that reward a genuine walk - like the seashore tower at Portencross - by way of grand survivors like five-towered Fyvie and Floors, seat of the Dukes of Roxburghe since the 1720s and lived in still.
