History
William the Conqueror · 11th century
Built on William the Conqueror's orders in the eleventh century as a motte-and-bailey, Rockingham was replaced with a stone castle within three decades. The Watson family has continuously occupied it since the sixteenth century, making it one of England's oldest inhabited castles. Today it remains a family home spanning nearly 1,000 years of stewardship.
