A modest ruin on the shore of Loch Carron, free and open at all times, reached via a single-track road that gives several reviewers pause before they arrive. What's left is small - walls and a lookout gap reviewers call the "peephole" - but the loch views from inside more than justify the short walk up.
The "peephole" in the wall framing a view straight down the loch - the photo everyone who visits ends up taking.
Parking is limited to two or three cars, so arrive with some flexibility; watch your footing near the cliff edges, and expect to share the ruin with a resident flock of sheep.
Reviewers consistently describe Strome Castle as a small but rewarding stop at the end of a narrow single-track road, praising the views through the ruin's "peephole" opening across the water and the lack of crowds. Parking is limited to just a couple of cars, and a few mention sheep now graze inside the ruins, along with steep drops near the water that call for care with children and dogs.

“Sort of out of the way, but absolutely not crowded. Had great views (but watch your step for sheep poop!).”— P R D, visitor review
