History
1546
The Grant family built the first tower of this Z-plan castle in 1546 after acquiring the lands in 1499. The castle was sacked and burned by the Earl of Huntly in 1645 but was restored the same year. The Macpherson-Grant family has continuously occupied Ballindalloch since 1546, making it a rare example of a working family home.
