John I Comyn (incorporated by Earl of Atholl) · 1269 (initial); substantial Georgian and Victorian additions
Blair Castle began in 1269 when John I Comyn started building while the Earl of Atholl was away on crusade, though the Earl reclaimed and incorporated the tower into his own castle. The structure evolved over 750 years, with the Atholl family adding substantially in the 18th and 19th centuries, creating the Scots Baronial style residence that stands today.
