The castle itself can generally only be viewed from outside, as interior access requires prior arrangement with English Heritage, but most feel the walk and scenery are worth it.

History
Henry VIII · 1512-1514
An initial artillery tower was built by Henry VIII between 1512 and 1514. In 1539, amid tension with France, it was rebuilt and extended into a large concentric fort by Moravian engineer Stefan von Haschenperg, but coastal silting gradually rendered it obsolete.
