History
Gruffydd Maelor II · 1260s
Gruffydd Maelor II, Prince of Powys Fadog, built this castle in the 1260s on a hilltop above Llangollen, replacing earlier Iron Age fortifications. It fell to Edward I in 1282 and was left to decay, surviving as romantic ruins.
