History
Norman lords · c. 1200 (keep)
Fonmon originated in the 12th century with Norman timber and stone construction, believed to start around 1200 with a rectangular keep. The St Johns family held it for centuries before the Jones family took ownership in 1656. Major 18th-century remodelling by Robert Jones III and wife Jane Seys (1762 onwards) employed Bristol craftsman Thomas Paty, adding render and battlements; the rococo library ceiling by Thomas Stocking is considered Wales' finest. In 2019, Nigel Ford acquired the estate and initiated extensive biodiversity restoration.
