History
Edward I · c. 1300
Fourteenth-century fortress built by Edward I around 1300 to replace an earlier motte-and-bailey castle. Endured repeated sieges and ownership changes, including capture by Robert the Bruce and later control by the Scottish Crown, before gradual abandonment after the early 17th century.
