History
Robert de Stafford · 1070s
Norman noble Robert de Stafford raised a timber fortification here in the 1070s. By the 14th century a substantial stone keep dominated the hilltop. The English Civil War saw it demolished in 1643 after Lady Isabel Stafford held it for the Royalists.
