History
Alexander I · 1110
King Alexander I dedicated a chapel here around 1110, establishing Stirling as a royal centre. It became one of Scotland's foremost royal residences and palaces-Mary Queen of Scots was crowned there in 1542. Most of the surviving principal buildings date from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries under successive Scottish monarchs.
