A Regency-era Gothic Revival castle built in 1812 for the barrister George Jeffreys, on the Dyfi Estuary in Ceredigion - a genuine 19th-century “mock castle” rather than a medieval fortress, and now run as an exclusive-use wedding venue and self-catering house rather than a visitor attraction. History

George Jeffreys · 1812

Built in 1812 for George Jeffreys, a barrister and High Sheriff of Cardiganshire, in the fashionable Regency "Gothick" style, after he inherited the estate on the death of his soldier brother in the Peninsular War. The novelist Thomas Love Peacock, a friend of the family, married Jane Griffith here in 1820. It passed through several owners after Jeffreys' death in 1868, including Sir Bernard Docker in the 1950s, and is Grade II listed.
