History
Thomas MacLellan · c.1577
Thomas MacLellan was granted the site of a ruined Greyfriars monastery in Kirkcudbright in 1569 and began constructing an L-plan tower house around 1577. The work, with 1582 carved above the entrance, was never completed. The castle passed through various owners including the Earls of Selkirk before being given to state care in 1912.
