History
Robert Fitzrandolph · 1190
Built in 1190 by Robert Fitzrandolph, this castle features a massive Norman keep and became home to the young Richard III after 1469 when he came under the guardianship of Richard Neville, the Kingmaker. The Neville family enhanced it into a luxurious fifteenth-century residence. It remained in royal hands after Richard's death until falling to ruin in the seventeenth century.
