History
Ralph Boteler · 1443
Ralph Boteler, Lord High Treasurer of England, began erecting this castle in 1443 as a showcase of his prominence and wealth. It became the home and burial place of Katherine Parr, Henry VIII's sixth wife, making it the only privately owned castle in Britain with a queen interred in its grounds. The Dent family purchased and restored it in 1837.
