Built by Edward I in the late 1200s as both fortress and statement of conquest, its triple-towered gatehouse still dominates the hilltop above Denbigh's town walls.
The triple-towered gatehouse - the castle's defining and best-preserved feature - and the walk up to the walls for views over the countryside.
Reviewers rate it good value at around £6; look out for the carved stone heads on site - most visitors only find two of the three.
Visitors consistently rate Denbigh Castle as an impressive and well-explained ruin, with the huge gatehouse and the views over the town and countryside cited as highlights, and the entry price seen as good value. There's no full cafe inside the castle itself, though several note nearby options in town, and one reviewer's only suggestion was for the old well to be cleared out rather than left cluttered with debris.

“Beautiful castle, built in 1282. It's a nice place to visit, we didn't get chance to view the whole castle but was good to see this old castle, great time with the family”— Sean Livesey, visitor review
