Edward I's diamond-plan castle beside the River Clwyd, which he had canalised to bring supply ships right up to the walls - a compact site you can cover thoroughly in an afternoon or briskly in an hour.
Climbing the accessible tower via reinforced spiral stairs for views over the site and river.
Parking is free (around 20 spaces with a couple of disabled bays) but entry is £6.50; toilet provision is a portaloo, so plan accordingly.
Reviewers consistently describe Rhuddlan as a well-maintained, easy-to-explore ruin with helpful staff and good views from the tower via its spiral staircase. A recurring practical complaint is around toilets — several mention there's only a portaloo or none at all on site, which a couple found inconvenient for a popular attraction — and one visitor noted the castle opened later than its advertised time.

“Lovely short walk around the castle, very friendly and informative lass at the visitors centre. Toilet is a portaloo (very mixed messages as to whether there's a toilet on the premises). Free parking but £6.50 to view…”— Jo Whitaker, visitor review
