History
Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh · 1810-1825
Built between 1810 and 1825 by Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh as a Gothic Revival castle on an ancient site. Designs by Charles Busby (exhibited 1815) evolved under Thomas Rickman into an enormous fortress-mansion. The castle hosted royalty, suffered wartime use for evacuees, and after decades of decay was acquired in 2018 by the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust for restoration.
