Castles in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has the smallest roll of the four nations - 19 castles across three counties - but a genuinely distinctive character, from the clifftop ruin at Dunluce to Carrickfergus's still-intact Norman keep guarding Belfast Lough, with lesser-known royal ruins like Greencastle down in County Down. The Department for Communities' Historic Environment Division manages roughly half of them directly.
